WHAT HAPPENED ON FLIGHT 6E2175? AN IRATE PASSENGER SLAPPED THE INDIGO CAPTAIN

A terrible picture of physical violence occurred on board the Airbus A20N, which was parked at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for more than ten hours, as a result of the lengthy delay of an IndiGo Delhi-Goa flight on Sunday. Sahil Kataria, a furious passenger, attacked Anup Kumar, the co-captain of the flight, by jumping over a food cart that was meant to act as a barrier between him and the other passengers. Mr. Kumar was struck at least once before he was hauled off by another passenger.

A third passenger, who was filming the captain announcing a further delay in departure, captured the incident on camera. According to reports, Mr. Kataraia, who is currently under the custody of Delhi Police, charged up from his seat in the back row, adding to the concerns of jet safety.

Then Mr. Kataria yelled, "Khol gate nahi, chala hai to chala... (If you intend to fly, proceed to take off; if not, open the gate.) The voice of someone else is heard saying, "We have been stuck here for hours."

How long the passengers had been held inside the aircraft is unknown.

Onboard IndiGo Flight 6E2175, what happened?

This is what we currently know, while the exact order of events leading up to the assault is still unclear.

At 7.40 am, the Airbus A20N, a short-medium range single aisle aircraft based on the company's well-known A-320 model, was supposed to take off from Delhi. But because of unfavorable weather, including thick fog at the IGI Airport, this flight—along with many more—had experienced a major delay.

Indeed, the weather in and around the national capital region has been awful for several days, with a cold wave and heavy fog causing several delays, cancellations, and diversions each day.

This morning, for example, at least 168 planes were delayed, with roughly 100 cancelled.

According to flight tracking website FlightAware, the IndiGo plane in issue took departure at 5.33 p.m., after an almost 10-hour delay. The flight to Goa International Airport in Dabolim was normal in duration, with the plane landing at 7.58 p.m., after 145 minutes, or around two and a half hours.

Whatever happened to Sahil Kataria?

Mr Kataria was arrested after being hauled away from the captain.
