In
response to Sonia Gandhi's rejection of the invitation to the historic Ayodhya event, Union minister and BJP leader Hardeep
Singh Puri warned on Wednesday that the Congress party will regret its choice
to skip the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple on January 22.
Additionally, he charged that the Congress party was mired in its own
"rhetoric".
"They
are mired in their own discourse...Why should we give them any weight? If they
don't go, they will regret it," Puri said.
The Congress party's decision, according to BJP leader Nalin
Kohli, wasn't shocking because they had rejected the existence of Lord Ram.
"During the last few decades, the Congress has done nothing
to establish an Ayodhya temple. They postponed the Supreme Court hearing and
denied that Lord Ram ever existed. Thus, it should not be shocking that the
Congress party has formally declared that it would not be attending Ram Mandir
Pran Pratistha "added the speaker.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the national secretary of the BJP, attacked the Congress for attributing its decision to the BJP.
"It is incorrect to quote the Congress that this is a BJP
event, but that is their party's attitude in refusing to attend the Ram Mandir
Pran Pratistha. I disagree with what they stated ".
The invitation to Congress leaders
Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was declined by
the Congress party on Wednesday, citing the temple's political project status
as a result of the BJP and RSS.
Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of
the Congress, claimed that the BJP was using the Ram Temple for political
purposes.
The installation of Lord Ram's statues inside the temple will be
marked by a ceremony that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent
members of the BJP will attend.
Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the CPI(M), declined the VHP's invitation to the temple earlier this month, accusing the BJP of combining religion and politics.
